A Small Beginning

On December 10th, 1904, in Charleston, S.C., three friends—Andrew Kroeg Jr, Simon Fogarty Jr, and Lawrence Harry Mixson–chose to begin the Pi Kappa Phi fraternity. These men founded their fraternity based on the principle of Nu Phi, which means “non-fraternity”.

Today under CEO Jake Henderson, Pi Kappa Phi stands more than 120,000 strong. We still carry the legacy and principles our fathers set forth by following “Nu Phi.” Every day we strive to diverge from the ordinary conceptions and standards of fraternities in order to pave our own path of excellence.

The Alpha Iota Chapter

The Alpha Iota chapter was founded by James T. Russel on October 2, 1926. Our chapter began small and unbeknownst. But over the course of the century, it has grown to over 160 active members. Our steady expansion is due to our commitment to education and modern leadership through service.

Today, we remain one of the largest chapters on campus and maintain a respected presence in Auburn. Nationally, we are one of the flagship chapters of Pi Kappa Phi, ranking top five in size, philanthropy fundraising, revenue generation, the list continues.
